Lake Michigan’s Ghost Ship Finally Found After 139 Years!
The long-lost schooner F.J. King has been chilling at the bottom of Lake Michigan since 1886—until now. Citizen treasure hunters just cracked the mystery wide open, spotting the 144-foot wreck off Baileys Harbor like it was hiding in plain sight.
This “ghost ship” went down in a storm with iron ore in its belly, sparking spooky legends and countless dead-end searches for more than a century. Now, thanks to high-tech sonar and some nerdy underwater drones, Brendon Baillod and the Wisconsin Underwater Archaeology Association have put the ship back on the map.
The kicker? She’s in shockingly good shape. Think less “Titanic wreckage” and more “time capsule straight out of the 1800s.” The Wisconsin Historical Society’s diving deep into documentation, even planning a full 3D model so history nerds can tour the wreck from their laptops.
