Did the 'Allentown Grandpa' Get Ghosted by ICE or Did He Even Exist?!
DHS just dropped a bombshell, saying the whole 'Allentown grandfather' deportation drama is fake news. But is it just a smokescreen, or did the dude never exist?
In a plot twist the Department of Homeland Security is calling BS on the story of Luis Leon, the so-called 'Allentown grandfather,' reportedly booted to Guatemala by ICE. They're saying this tale is a total hoax to make ICE look bad.
The original story said that Leon had a routine green card appointment in Philly and got deported, but DHS clapped back, saying there's no record of him even showing up. The only Luis Leon they've got on file came from Chile in 2015 and he was not an asylum seeker. The Guatemalan Institute of Migration also confirms that they have not received anyone by Leon's name, age, or nationality.
The Morning Call, a local Allentown outlet, broke the story, fed by a guy and his friend claiming to be Leon's fam. Allegedly, Leon's in Guatemala now, not in a rush to hit up the U.S. again, and his family is not going to speak to press any more.
So, is ICE covering their tracks after an old man came to their office, they did not find him in the database and deported as someone else, or was this man just a figment of imagination? The public's divided, wondering why Leon never applied for the U.S. citizenship and why there's only one weird pic of him floating around.
